Meet Mr. MoorE

This past week we sat down with the newest addition to our History department, Mr. Colin Moore.

Mr. Moore hails from Longmont, Colorado and grew up there. He knew he wanted to work at either a charter school or a private school and after doing lots of research decided on Ridgeview based off its philosophy, which he felt was a great fit for him.

“It seemed like a school that had very good values,” says Moore, “And now that I am here, I was absolutely correct in that assessment.”

When asked to describe Ridgeview, Moore said  “It is incredibly principled and advanced.  Students here have a handle on curriculum that is generally pretty far ahead of where they would be elsewhere…I love that members of the administration also teach. That is very cool because it is really easy for administrators to lose sight of what it is actually like to be in a classroom.”

Out of all areas of history, Moore enjoys teaching American the most. “Certain aspects of European History are fascinating to teach as well because of the military aspects, specifically World War II. Military conflicts have always been very interesting to me and World War II has always been the most interesting, that is why I am teaching that as an elective. It is so multifaceted, you can look at it from so many different angles and come to so many different conclusions every time. ”

Moore did his first two years of collegiate undergrad at CU Boulder before transferring to Franciscan University in Ohio on a lacrosse scholarship, where he also played rugby. He has an undergraduate degree in Political Science, which he acquired while working as a mechanic. He is currently getting his Master’s in Education through Arizona State University online.

When asked if he would be interested in attending a trip with the Outdoor Program, Moore said anything with downhill skiing would be awesome. “Decent weather would be preferable!” With a background in Boy Scouts, Moore says he has camped in the snow too many times already to do it again.

In his leisure time, Moore plays in a men’s lacrosse league and plays box lacrosse in the winter. He likes to work out, watch sports and read with his bunny rabbit.

Moore is excited to continue teaching here at Ridgeview and has been blown away by the community.

“The lack of cliques is very refreshing. The charter school I went to as a kid for K-8 was not this way.”

Moore’s upbeat attitude and genuine enthusiasm has already left a great impression on his students.

“Mr. Anderson has said he wants a rugby team and I would be totally down to coach!”
